Well Spring Service Learning | "All for Children" Service-learning Programme

April 23, 2020 Musing Humanity Program

This summer, volunteer students of Muse College went to SF Lianhua Primary School, sponsored by SF Foundation in Gaolue Village, Langdong Town, Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province, and improve the education there.

In this programme, we were responsible for teaching nearly 50 left-behind children in preschool and grade 4-6 who were divided into two classes. We have stayed there for 7 days, and had 98 class hour for volunteer teaching. We opened various courses such as Chinese, maths, English, art, geography, history, dance, physical, music and economic course.

In the process of teaching, we adopted a variety of teaching methods and timely adjusted the difficulty of teaching contents according to the students' ability to accept in class. In addition to daily teaching, we organized the campus game for all the students.

What’s more, we selected six students every night, and accompany them home for home visits. Team members seriatim spoke with the parents of the students and kept detailed record. At last, we completed nearly 50 times home visits in eight days. In this process, we have an in-depth understanding of the local children's growth and the local social situation. It also contributed to the team to carry out the follow-up teaching and make the teaching atmosphere and relationship between teachers and students more harmonious.
